YouTube Shorts View Count Update
Published 04-04-2025 | Updated 04-04-2025
Starting March 31, 2025, Google will update the way views are counted in YouTube Shorts. From now on, every automatic or repeated playback will count as a full view. There's no longer a need for the viewer to watch a few seconds—playback alone is enough.
What this means for creators:
– Increased reach
– Better view metrics, even for videos with high bounce rates
– Higher chances of appearing in the Shorts Feed
YouTube will still provide traditional analytics. The main focus remains on "Engaged views" — views with actual user engagement.
Engaged views are essential for:
– YouTube Partner Program (YPP)
– Monetization opportunities
Shorts Stats for 2024–2025:
– Over 70 billion views per day
– 2+ billion active users monthly
– Shorts now make up more than 25% of total YouTube traffic
Keep in mind: more views do not always mean more revenue. Engagement still matters. But this change increases the chances of getting traction through algorithms.
