Scrolling Under Control: TikTok Updates Parental Controls
Table of Contents:
TikTok has introduced a range of new features focused on safety, digital well-being, and support for content creators. The latest updates include an enhanced Family Pairing system, new Creator Care tools, and interactive well-being missions. The platform also officially launched a fact-checking system called Footnotes.
Parental Controls: Family Pairing
Parents can now block specific accounts from interacting with their child. These users will also be excluded from the child’s feed. In addition, parents will receive notifications when their child posts public content such as videos, photos, or stories.
They’ll also have greater visibility into their child’s privacy settings — for example, whether downloads are allowed or if the follower list is public.
New Features for Creators
The newly introduced Creator Care Mode filters out harmful or inappropriate comments. It adapts over time: if creators consistently delete certain types of comments, the system will begin auto-blocking similar ones.
Keyword Blocking is now available in TikTok Live chats, allowing creators to mute users who use certain words for a set period.
TikTok also launched a professional Creator Inbox with separate tabs for “Unread” and “Starred” messages, as well as quick reply options for frequently asked questions.
Another feature, Creator Chat Room, allows creators with 10,000+ followers (aged 18+) to host group chats with up to 300 participants.
The new Content Check Lite tool helps creators assess whether a video is likely to appear in the “For You” feed. An advanced pre-publication content check is also being tested.
Well-being and Digital Habits
TikTok’s Well-being Missions offer flashcards and tasks that promote healthy digital habits. Users can earn badges for completing missions. The app also introduces a digital wellness hub with breathing exercises, calming sounds, and screen-time analytics.
