Google tests YouTube reviews using AI
Google has begun testing AI-generated video reviews on YouTube. Currently, this new feature is available only to a limited group of YouTube Premium users in the United States and only for specific English-language search queries, according to Engadget.
Unlike the AI text summaries in Google Search, which compile information from websites, the YouTube version highlights the most relevant video clips based on the user’s search request. According to Google, this tool will be particularly useful for users looking for product reviews (such as "best noise-canceling headphones") or travel ideas ("museums to visit in San Francisco").
However, the new feature has raised concerns among video content creators. Previously, journalists and publishers expressed similar worries that AI-generated summaries in Google Search might "absorb" traffic that would otherwise go directly to their websites. Now, a similar threat looms over YouTube creators—if users are satisfied with brief AI-generated clips, full video views might decline.
Google has not yet disclosed how long the testing phase will last or whether the feature will eventually be rolled out to a wider audience.
