How to Protect Your Telegram Channel from Hacking

Security of a Telegram channel depends mainly on the administrator. In most cases attackers compromise the owner’s account, not the channel itself. The main threats are phishing, social engineering and malware.

Tip 1. Separate admin account
Use a special “admin account” only for managing the channel. Do not write comments or join public chats from it, and keep its username secret. If attackers cannot identify which account controls the channel, it is harder to attack.

Tip 2. Limit permissions
Telegram allows flexible roles. Grant only necessary rights for posting or moderation. Full access – only to the most trusted persons. This reduces risks if someone’s account is hacked.

Tip 3. Add a backup admin
Have at least one more administrator with sufficient rights. If your account is blocked, the backup admin can quickly remove it and keep control of the channel.

Tip 4. Disable post signatures
Turn off the “Sign messages” option so outsiders cannot see which account published a post. This hides the identity of your admins.

Tip 5. Use expiring invite links
For private channels always set limits for invitation links by time and number of uses. This prevents mass entry via old leaked links.

Tip 6. Remove unnecessary bots
Since Telegram now has built-in scheduled posting, disable or delete third-party service bots that once had admin rights. External bots can be created by anonymous developers and pose a serious security risk.
