Filtered Living: How Social Media Shapes What We Want
Social media is no longer just entertainment — it sets the standard for what’s desirable. On TikTok, a thermos cup became a status symbol, and "Dubai" chocolate turned luxury due to aesthetic packaging and influencer hype.
Today, value is driven by visuals, not quality. Algorithms decide what we see — and often what we want. Millions follow trends without realizing they weren’t chosen freely.
Younger generations dream of being influencers, not doctors or engineers. The influencer economy promotes fast success without education — but it often leads to burnout, instability, and illusion.
One striking trend is Soft life aesthetic — a dreamy, effort-free lifestyle full of calm mornings and pretty visuals. Social platforms amplify this content, pushing curated perfection while hiding everyday struggle. The result? Anxiety, unrealistic expectations, and self-doubt.
To break the cycle, we need to consume mindfully. Real life isn’t filtered — and it doesn’t need to be to have value.
