The project is still in its early development stage and is being handled by a small team of fewer than ten people, suggesting a highly controlled and experimental approach.

Biometric Verification and Proof of Personhood

At the core of the platform lies the concept of proof of personhood, designed to ensure that every account belongs to a real individual. OpenAI is considering Apple Face ID and the World Orb, a biometric device that scans the iris. As of 2024, over 5 million users worldwide have already verified their identity through World ID.

Unlike email or phone verification, biometric identification aims to provide a definitive layer of authenticity.

Why Bots Became a Systemic Threat

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has repeatedly warned about the rise of the “dead internet,” where human interaction is replaced by automated content. Studies suggest that up to 60% of engagement on major platforms may involve AI-driven accounts. Following major staff reductions at X, moderation capabilities declined, further amplifying the issue.

Competition and Ethical Concerns

OpenAI will face strong competition from platforms like Instagram with 3 billion users, TikTok, Threads, and emerging decentralized networks. At the same time, privacy advocates warn that biometric data collection carries serious risks. Unlike passwords, biometric data cannot be changed, making data security a critical concern.
